How to Authenticate Bottega Veneta
BV is among the most counterfeited brands — because the intrecciato weave is both iconic and difficult to fake well. Six checks to separate real from fake.
Intrecciato Weave Consistency
Each strip ~5–8mm, uniform diagonal spacing, smooth flush when running finger across. Fakes: uneven gaps, fraying edges, inconsistent angles.
Leather Quality & Feel
Lambskin: impossibly soft. Calfskin: firm fine pebble. Authentic BV has warmth and yield on first touch. Fake leather = plasticky, stiff, uniform.
Hardware (Minimal)
BV uses almost no visible hardware. What exists is matte/brushed, heavy, smooth-turning. Gritty zippers or wobbling hardware = fake.
Interior Stitching
Suede or calf interior, never nylon. 8–10 stitches per cm, no glue residue. Jodie knot perfectly formed.
Interior Stamp
Pre-2021: "Bottega Veneta" stamped in gold inside. Post-2022 varies. Blurry or off-center = fake.
Made in Italy
All BV made in Italy (Vicenza). No serial numbers — BV does not use serial codes on most pieces.
